The Inwardly Opposed
Diesel Engine
The inwardly opposed
piston diesel engine was first optimized using TECAT Engineering's Opposed Piston
Diesel Engine Simulation, OPDES. This is a two stroke, uniflow diesel
engine with upstream supercharging, intercooling, turbo-charging and turbo-compounding.
The engine simulation includes the following components: turbomachinery
and manifold models, a wastegate model; an injection optimization algorithm,
which is limited by both manifold pressure and in-cylinder pressure; peak
torque searching algorithm; peak power searching algorithm; round, elliptic
or square port design capability; and a thermal network model, which tracks
energy distributions out to the coolant and oil. There are currently two
working engine prototypes developed from OPDES specifications. |
