Customized Production Machines

TECAT Automation has developed a one of a kind machine to automate a process that was previously labor intensive and extremely time consuming. A book refurbishing company was using manual labor to rip off the covers of paperback books, in order to commence the hard cover binding process. Previously, this process took about 130 man-hours per week, with several concerns of carpal tunnel developing in the workers performing the task. With completion of this machine, the task will only require one operator, half time, who will only have to load the books into the hopper. After that, the CARD (Cover Automated Removal Device) machine takes over.

TECAT Automation engineers listened to all of the concerns and issues of our customer in order to make this custom machine as efficient as possible, as it is incorporated into the bindery’s process. The operator simply loads the book into the hopper, which feeds it into the machine. The machine rolls the cover away from the book block, tensioners tear the cover off and the book block is carried off on a conveyor to the rest of the production process, where a new hardback cover is attached.
